Meet the Team

Jana Meyer

Pilot & Director

Jana Meyer’s passion for wildlife conservation began right after school when she completed her Nature Conservation studies at Technicon SA. While working as a guide in Kruger National Park, she witnessed firsthand the vital role helicopters play in conservation. A dream was sparked when she had the opportunity to fly in one during a capture operation.

Her career took her from Kruger to Singita Lebombo as a guide, where she obtained her FGASA Trails Guide & ARH qualification. She later managed wildlife on a private game reserve in the Waterberg before pursuing her dream of becoming one of South Africa’s few specialized female game capture helicopter pilots. In just 18 months, while balancing a full-time job and raising three-year-old twins, she earned her Commercial Pilot’s License and game capture rating.

Jana’s deep love for Kruger and the Lowveld led her back to Hoedspruit, where she now runs Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services. Rated on the Airbus AS350, Robinson 66, R44, and R22, she also holds game, night, and NVG endorsements. Her unique combination of guiding experience, bush knowledge, and exceptional piloting skills sets her apart.

Operating under Big Game Heli Services CC’s AOC (Aircraft Operating License), Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services meets all SACAA regulations and prioritizes safety. The company works closely with established non-profits, specialized wildlife veterinarians, rangers, wardens, and counter-poaching & K9 units in the Greater Kruger National Park area.
